FIRE SAFETY TRAINING AT VEDANT INTERNATIONAL SCHOOL

INTRODUCTION

In the modern world, the excessive use of air conditioners and other electrical gadgets has significantly increased the risk of fire mishaps. Consequently, it is crucial to procure and install fire safety equipment in both workplaces and homes. Equally important is the knowledge of how to use these devices and understanding the necessary safety measures and actions to be taken in the event of a fire, whether at home or in public places.

FIRE SAFETY TRAINING OVERVIEW

At Vedant International School, the teachers, management and non teaching staff had the invaluable opportunity to learn about fire safety through a fire drill conducted by FIRE DEPARTMENT . They specializein rescue operations during fire incidents and provides essential support and guidance during such emergencies. The fire drill was instrumental in acquainting the staff with various fire safety equipment installed on the school campus.

TYPES OF FIRE EXTINGUISHERS

During the drill, the staff learned about the three main types of fire extinguishers and their appropriate uses:

  1. WATER EXTINGUISHERS: These are effective against fires involving combustible materials such as paper, textiles, and wood.
  2. POWDER EXTINGUISHERS: Versatile and useful for all types of fires.
  3. CO2 EXTINGUISHERS: Specifically used for fires caused by electrical appliances or any fire involving electricity, where water extinguishers are not suitable.

PRACTICAL TRAINING AND EMERGENCY RESPONSE

The fire drill provided practical training on the use of these extinguishers. The management and teachers practiced handling the equipment and learned critical emergency response actions. Jyoti Shukla, the principal of Vedant International School, was present throughout the drill, offering guidance and emphasizing the importance of staying calm, not panicking, and assisting others during a fire emergency.

In addition to fire response training, the staff received instruction on providing CPR to individuals who suffer a heart attack, managing brain strokes, and administering first aid to injured persons. These skills are essential for ensuring safety and effective response during emergencies.

REAL-LIFE APPLICATION

The effectiveness of the fire drill was demonstrated just two days after its completion. Pragati Ma’am, one of the teachers, encountered a fire at her home when ghee on the gas stove caught fire due to overheating. Remembering the training, she quickly extinguished the fire by throwing a wet towel over the burning ghee vessel, thereby saving her family from potential harm. This incident highlights the importance of such drills and the practical knowledge gained from them.

CONCLUSION

The fire safety training conducted by FIRE DEPARTMENT at Vedant International School was an invaluable experience for all participants. It emphasized the critical importance of being prepared and knowledgeable about fire safety equipment and emergency response procedures. Every school and organization should organize similar fire drills, as merely having fire extinguishers is insufficient without proper guidance and training on their use.

We extend our sincere gratitude to FIRE DEPARTMENT for their comprehensive training and guidance, which have significantly enhanced our preparedness to handle fire emergencies.

This report aims to detail the importance and effectiveness of the fire safety training conducted at Vedant International School and encourages other institutions to prioritize such essential training for the safety and well-being of all.
